REDstack: National Icon 2016

Redstack, ASML and Groasis were appointed National Icons by Minister Henk Kamp (Economic Affairs) during De Wereld Draait Door on Tuesday evening. The nomination is for organisations that innovate in the field of energy, food and water supply, healthcare or mobility.

Redstack uses a special membrane to generate energy from fresh and salt water. The concept is already being applied on the Afsluitdijk.

Groasis receives the award for the development of a paper box with which trees can grow in dry areas. With the box, trees can grow with ninety percent less water.

ASML invented the 'Lighthouse', a high power electron accelerator with which radioisotopes can be produced that can be used for research. With the invention it is now possible to do so without a nuclear reactor and without enriched uranium, thus creating almost no nuclear waste.

Network
From ten finalists, the winners were put forward to the Council of Ministers, which eventually took the decision. The winners will receive support from a minister and a department that will give them access to a network. This will help them find funding and new business partners.
